Promote Your Books PRICE LIST LISTINGS MAILINGS DISPLAYS SALES TABLES RADIO & TV REVIEWS WEB PAGE
Nobody publishes a book unless they want others to read it. So why do so many books that authors publish themselves languish in closets, on the coffee tables of friends, and on the back shelves of local bookstores? Because they aren't promoted. If you are a South Dakota writer, or if you write about South Dakota, all you have to do to get started promoting your book is to send five copies to Tesseract Publications along with the price, (don't forget your address and phone number), a brief description of it, and we will put your book on our list at no charge to you. Because we hope to get any residual results from our publicity, we ask that authors not print in the book nor enclose information to allow customers to make future purchases from them or from other distributors. We do take 40% of the sales price of any books that we sell, and this list is mailed widely. From time to time it is mailed to South Dakota Libraries, both elementary and secondary Schools, Bookstores, and Newspapers, South Dakota Gift and Souvenir Shops, and anyone locally or nationally who purchases books from us. Future mailings will go to bookstores and distributors nationally who have ever purchased books from Tesseract Publications. There are many listings that are entirely free to publishers, and some that require only a sample copy of your book for listing. We keep these listings on file, and can help you get your book listed for a small fee. Tesseract has had displays at conventions like the American Booksellers Association and the American Librarian Association, and has helped display books at the South Dakota Librarian's Association. From time to time, we set up a sales table at some special event like the History Conference at Augustana College or The South Dakota State Poetry Society meetings. From time to time, we are asked to recommend people to appear on radio or TV, and sometimes help put the program together. Owner and publisher Janet Leih is on two Advisory Boards for Who's Who publishers. Reviewers provide an inexpensive way to promote your book. The cost is the price of the book along with a per-piece price for mailing. We have mailing lists for reviewers, and can give you prices which depend on the size of your mailing. During the past several years, Tesseract Publications has undertaken to develop a web page in order to take advantage of new technology. We are now combining direct mail with the Internet in order to develop a new market for the books on the book list. While the Internet has been a difficult tool to master, we have confidence that in time, this will become more effective as former customers become aware of our page.
